Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for Xbox 360 Preview - Dark Apprenticeship

You will eventually come to the turning point in the game where Vader actually meets his apprentice, and from there on out you will be playing as the apprentice himself and not Vader.

Once you become the apprentice, the game revolves around missions that Vader sends you on to eliminate specific enemies. You then engage in a TIE fighter factory where your ultimate goal is to get to General Kota. You are instructed by Vader to eliminate every witness in sight prior to getting to Kota, and there are plenty of witnesses in the form of soldiers.

This level of the game pits you against tons of soldiers as you make your way through several hangars. Unlike Vader, the apprentice is quick rather than powerful. No need to worry though; over time you can upgrade his skills and power as you progress through the game. Each time you kill an enemy you will accumulate Force points, which allow you to upgrade certain skills. The number of points you receive for each kill depends on the method you used to execute the kill. For example, a more complicated kill that was done through a combination will garner more Force points.

As you accumulate Force points you will reach new levels, and with each new level you will be allowed to upgrade the skill set of your choice. You can either upgrade your Force powers, maximum health, Force recharge time, or your move set. If you want you can even choose to upgrade your lightsaber’s power as well as you collect crystals throughout the game that add on to your lightsaber and will even change its color.

The TIE fighter factory level ends with you, the apprentice, finally squaring off against General Kota himself. To put it simply, it is an awesome battle to participate in, not only for the battle itself, but for the surrounding environments. The battle begins in a control room of the factory. As the battle rages further, General Kota steps away from you, and uses the force to completely detach the control room from the entire factory.

This sends you towards another planet’s atmosphere, and you are now forced to fight on the roof of the room as it descends towards the planet. As you get closer to the planet’s atmosphere, the heat causes the control room beneath you to begin melting, and you are now forced to engage General Kota further up from the roof or else you will perish. The sequence in which Kota dislodges the room from the factory and engages you in a hellish battle before you both could burn is well worth the price of admission and is just a sneak peek into the intense battles in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
