Small Tech Gifts for Kids
It is that dreaded time of the year again. No matter what you do, you can not seem to hide from it. No door lock will keep it out and no weapon can take it down. No force on this planet can stop it. It's holiday time. Keep reading for some smart gifts for kids that will hopefully help you get through it.
Maybe for you it is most difficult at Christmas or Hanukkah, or maybe it is a birthday that raises your anxiety level. No matter what the date in question is or if the season is balmy summer or blustery winter, the time has come to buy a gift for a child that is not your own and quite possibly a child that you do not know all that well.
I know that is a maddening concept. If you know someone well, then you can pick based on your mental database of their likes and dislikes, but without that you are swimming blind in a sea of choices, pulled by endless tides of indecision. That's not exactly how you planned to spend an idle Saturday afternoon, or a weekday evening.
Why would you buy a gift for a kid you don't know that well? Well maybe that child is...
Your new significant other's child.
The child of a friend.
A niece or nephew that you have not seen in a few years, perhaps because they live in another part of the country.
The younger sibling of a roommate with whom you are spending a holiday.
Any of about 1,000 odd situations that life may get you in, but that I will not expand on here, just because we could write a whole piece alone on those odd situations that life can throw at you on any given idle day.
For whatever the reason, you need to get your hands on a small gadget-like gift for a person who is most likely under the age of 17, and you don't want to just phone it in with a gift card. Kudos for not taking the lame way out; everyone knows that gift cards are just that. Don't believe the sales people. They know that gift cards don't have a 100 percent use rate, and that is good for company profits. After all, they will be getting something for nothing.
Now I know what you are thinking. "How on earth am I supposed to shop for this kid when I know next to nothing about him or her? You are not just going to lead me down a longer and more complex version of giving the pretty girl a nice doll and the boy a fire engine, are you?"
No, I most certainly am not. All of the gifts I am going to list will work for kids with a wide range of interests, from a Hannah Montana-loving pop princess, to the boy involved in three sports who is also a punk rock aficionado. Both boys and girls will find these gifts to be great picks. After all, who does not want to be the one that seems to pull a great and appropriate gift out of thin air? To give you some bonus points, if there is a related site, then I will tell you about that too. Have no fear, I won't tell that you got some extra help from a friend on the outside!
Before we begin, lets just clear that elephant from the center of the room. I know that these are hard times and that you may not have a lot of money to spend on what is essentially a minor person in your life. Well good news abounds; you do not have to spend a lot of cash. You can make this work on any budget. We will make $50 our magic cut off number, but to be fair, most of the items will come in way under that mark. I just want to be sure that you get the best range of choices that are out there for you. So without any further ado, let's go and take a good look at the buffet of choices before you.
