Security Issues with the Bluetooth Headset
(Page 1 of 4 )
You probably love the hands-free and wires-free aspects of your Bluetooth headset. Well, there are some disadvantages that come with it, and no, we don't mean that it makes you look like a cyborg who is talking to himself. We're talking about your cell phone's security, and the possibility that someone could hijack your phone for some very long international conversations at your expense. Keep reading for the details, including some advice on how to prevent it and what to do if you fall victim to this hack.
The Invasion of the Headsets
We have been invaded by a small race of creatures. They nest inside your ear and periodically send you communications. Only the person who is receiving these clandestine communications knows their true content, and they aren't telling YOU what was in them. Like any invasion force with a commander of any intelligence, the massive fleet didn't land in saucer disks; a softer and more subversive tact was taken. The mechanical creatures attached themselves to a few people, and the fleet has been slowly whispering secrets in the ears of those who has who have become one with the symbiotic devices.
Okay, all kidding aside, you have more than likely noticed that headsets featuring Bluetooth technology have become more and more popular, not just among the technology trendies but with the every day people you see out on the street at work or wandering around the local mall. There are a few reasons for this rise in popularity:
- Increased awareness of the technology has made people want them; you can't want what you don't know exists.
- As the technology gets more and more popular, the cost of it has gone down, which makes it accessible to people who are willing to spend some money on a headset.
- An increasing number of phone brands and models are being made that are capable of using the headsets.
- Some companies are giving the headsets away when you buy the phone, and most people will use something that they got for free even if they would never have bought it in a million years.
