    Perpendicular Recording - Conclusion

    Conclusion

Today we got to take a look at a new technology that should change hard drives in the future. It's a new method for recording data onto the hard drives called perpendicular recording. I hope you learned what this new technology is and how it will affect future storage options.

Hard drives in the future will be larger in capacity and should become smaller in size due to fewer disks in the hard drive. We also got to take a look at the real world performance of this new recording technology. I wouldn’t go buy one of these right now, but next time your in the market for a new hard drive, I would certainly give this type of hard drive a good look.

The price is in line with traditional hard drive versions. Sadly we didn’t see any gains in testing with perpendicular recording. I have a feeling that hard drives can’t get too much faster without some hybrid version and a nice amount of solid state memory.

Solid state memory blows traditional hard drives out of the water. There are some solid state devices starting to creep into the market. I have a feeling that my next storage review will be one of these. With the price dropping, we could see a few of these at a reasonable price level soon.

       · Well you explained everything nicely... and you did test...But two hard drives...
