Panasonic TC-P50V10 - Getting the Picture

Videophiles who are big on adjusting the picture on their televisions may be a bit disappointed with the Panasonic TC-P50V10 in terms of the sheer volume of available adjustments. The Panasonic TC-P50V10 does not offer as many picture adjustments as other competitors in the HDTV market.

Adjustment "experts" will be happy to find out, however, that the Panasonic TC-P50V10 does come equipped with many more advanced adjustments than regular models via the Pro Setting menu. When in the Pro setting menu one can tweak the grayscale of the display, the gamma control, as well as several other aspects, which can drastically improve picture quality IF you know what you are doing.

There are six different picture modes on the Panasonic TC-P50V10, such as Standard, THX, and Studio Ref. One definite plus is that the Custom picture mode is independent per input, which saves the time of having to readjust each time you switch devices.

The Standard mode seems to be particularly dim. Studio Ref. mode gives viewers a picture that replicates one produced by a studio monitor. All of the picture modes on the Panasonic TC-P50V10 are adjustable as well.

For hardcore gamers, there is also a Game mode. Game mode reduces the "wobbling" sometimes seen while playing video games, increases image response and also produces darker, sharper images while playing to allow users to enjoy their gaming experience more fully.

Several adjustments exist in each picture mode. Among them are a Color management setting that affects color decoding, as well as the C.A.T.S. feature that will adjust the picture dependent on the amount of brightness or light it detects in the room. This is a nice feature to have for those who happen to keep their windows or blinds open while watching television, as it adjusts to the exterior light.

In all of the picture modes you can also make adjustments to affect black level, video noise, or 2:3 pulldown. There are also five different aspect ratio options you can adjust as well.
