Nintendo`s Wii Fit
Nintendo has decided to capitalize on America’s obesity epidemic with the launch of Wii Fit. Nintendo began its campaign towards “healthier gaming” when it introduced Wii Sports, which encouraged gamers to get off their behinds and move more than just their fingers while playing video games like tennis or golf. With Wii Fit, they have decided to turn up the heat about 100 degrees.

While Wii Fit may not present much of a challenge to the typical gym rat, it is by far the most physically demanding gaming system on the market. While using Wii Fit your heart rate will definitely increase and you will also sweat. I go to the gym at least five times a week and after a Wii Fit yoga session I was quite sore the next day.
Nintendo hopes that Wii Fit will have a high appeal. The game aims to reach a variety of target markets, ranging from casual non-video game players to gamers who wish to lose some of that weight gained from sitting on the couch for too long. Wii Fit should also appeal to those too self conscious to hit the gym or those bored by traditional exercise. Wii Fit has already sold over two million units in Japan, and with America's current problems with obesity, it will hopefully be a hit here as well.

Wii Fit currently sells for $89.99 in the Unites States and comes complete with the Wii Balance Board. The Balance Board looks similar to a weight scale and measures a player's movements and shifts accurately as they move on and off of it. It is actually pretty amazing how accurate the board is in measuring your movements, and it responds much better than the Wii controller. The Balance Board uses the data collected from your movements to track your progress during exercises and will encourage you to work harder depending on your current status.
