New Advances in TV and Computer 3D Technology - Sony

Sony’s offering, which is currently being called the Kenobi, looks like it will take a more sci-fi approach as it pertains to appearances. Its current model is a cylinder-shaped 360 stereoscopic display that is fairly compact in size. The device’s current specs aren’t very impressive with 96×128 resolution and a 24-bit color palette, but as previously mentioned it’s the company’s first and only prototype.

At the moment, the device can only place a 3D image inside what appears to be a tube, which allows users to see the image from all angles. According to Sony’s presentation at the expo, the device will be used in many different ways, from the silly (keeping a virtual pet), to the serious (medical imagery). The company also hopes consumers will use the device for communication and shopping purposes, among others.
