My X-mas Wish List (One Techie’s Delusions of Excess)
With Christmas just around the corner, I was asked a very loaded question: “If you could have anything for X-mas, what would it be?” As I child, I would have blurted out a number of different things within seconds of being asked. However, as I’ve grown older I’ve become a little more selective and, frankly, grandiose. This was a question that required some thought and proper research before being answered.
As I carefully pondered my choices for a Christmas Wish List, my thoughts, naturally, strayed to the wonderful world of technology. With near limitless choices, I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options I had for my list. Should I look at cellphones with built-in mp3 players? What about a digital camera? Maybe a Blackberry or a new Palm Pilot?
My decision was made for me over a cup of fancy flavored coffee at my local coffee shop. As I looked around the store, I could see people with nearly every device that popped into my mind. In this age of excess I needed to standout and be remarkable because of the sheer insanity of my desired gifts. Teenagers less than a third of my age were busy comparing playlists on their new phones. The couple two tables over were oohing and aahing over the tiny glow from their miniature lcd screen on their digital camera. A self-important executive was busily sending an email on his Blackberry while consuming his over-priced coffee-based beverage. I knew then and there that I had to dazzle people with the sheer ludicracity of my gift wishes.
So this list was born.
I decided that the list needed to be only five items in size, an attempt on my part to keep a small measure of attainability to my list. After much consideration I decided that my first item needed to be something with a practical purpose in a completely impractical package.
The Acer Ferrari 4000 series laptop fit this criteria nicely.
