The final game to be reviewed from Wiiware’s launch date is TV Show King. TV Show King mirrors many of today’s television game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and other quiz shows. It comes complete with both single and multiplayer modes, with the latter obviously being the more fun of the two. With over 3,000 different questions, TV Show King is a good download to help players give their minds a little exercise.
TV Show King’s format is a combination of something similar to the Wheel of Fortune and a quiz show game. It comes complete with its own host and offers multiple choice questions to its competitors, each hoping to win the most cash in the end. Each competitor answers every multiple choice question until the final round, since there is no buzzing in TV Show King like there is in Jeopardy. After each round, players can choose to spin a wheel that can change the face of the game. A spin of the wheel lets players win points, lose them, or even swap scores with another competitor.
The 3,000 multiple choice questions come from a variety of topics including sports, history, literature, science, and entertainment and players can select from three different difficulty levels. To really be challenged at all, it is best to play on either of the two higher settings. Playing on the easiest setting is too easy since the “wrong” multiple choice options are way too obvious. Multiplayer mode is much better because the AI in single player provides little competition. There is also a single player mode where you can try to answer as many questions correctly in a row without failing.
TV Show King is a good download if it is used in multiplayer mode. The game has good presentation and decent graphics. Single player is where the game lacks, though. The AI opponents do not provide enough of a challenge and the multiple choice options are way too obvious. Priced at 1,000 Wii points or $10, TV Show King is worth the purchase only if you are looking to play it with other friends or family.
