Madden 09 for the PS3 - Graphics and Play

The presentation in Madden 09 is upgraded a bit from its previous editions, especially in terms of the broadcast team. EA Sports hired actual NFL commentators Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond to call the games in Madden 09. This is a definite upgrade from previous announcers in the game and adds more realism to it. While you play, your mind may actually be tricked into thinking it's watching a live NFL game thanks to their familiar voices and commentary.
At times the commentators will give advice as to what should have been done in the previous play via the Back Track feature. With Back Track, Collinsworth or Hammond will dissect a previous play and give advice as to where you went wrong. This is sometimes good advice to have, although it may be unrealistic and too demanding at times.
Visually, the game is beautiful. Stadiums are accurate, as are the uniforms. Lighting in the stadiums is excellent and realistic as well. Even the grass has been improved; its new texture looks so real that you might want to put on a helmet and get out there yourself.
Player animations are realistic; their movements are smooth and not choppy. The player models also look better than ever and resemble players’ bodies well. A few new camera features have been added, including the hit cam that focuses in on particular bone jarring hits and a breakaway cam that incorporates itself into big plays.
The gameplay modes are the same from past editions in Superstar, Exhibition, and Franchise with two new ones added. Madden Moments puts you in situations from NFL games last year with memorable finishes. It is your job to try to duplicate the finishes or put your own twist on them. Online Leagues is another new mode in which you can participate in 32-man leagues with the hopes of winning the championship.
NFL fans should definitely pick up Madden 09. The graphics are excellent and realistic, and so is the commentary, with actual NFL announcers. Gameplay is outstanding as always, and the addition of the play styles feature is a plus. Simply put, if you are a football fan in general, Madden 09 is a must have.
