IT Inventory and Resource Management with OCS Inventory NG 1.02 - Conclusion

If you have to maintain a large computer network on a daily basis and do not want to run from machine to machine every five minutes, you will have to choose a good inventory and resource management system. There are multiple projects on the web that focus on this area: on the shareware market, SolarWinds IpMonitor is worth considering, while as shareware solutions any of the OpenNMS, Nagios XI, Open-AudIT and OCS NG programs can turn out as a good solution.

The reviewed book is going to be worth a gold mine if the final decision at your office comes down to using the OCS Next Generation Inventorying system. You will find detailed descriptions for how to install it, tailor it to your preferences and  troubleshoot it in case something goes wrong. While the book takes a step-by-step practical approach, if you are an advanced user and get stuck at some point, it is a good resource to see what your options are.

Then again, I always consider reading a matter of taste. Some like to read Shakespeare; they consider him a genius, while other think that he used a too complicated structure and would instead read Oscar Wilde. If you are thinking of buying this book, but you are reluctant because you think you may like or not the style of the author, Packt Publishing provides a sample chapter. You can access it from this link.

Overall, if you are in the market searching for a book that gives a detailed description of how to set up, fill, modify and perform other administration-related tasks on an inventory system, this book is definitely one to consider. You can acquire it from multiple sources (like Amazon, Packt Pub or Barnes and Noble), however if you cannot wait for the hard print copy to arrive, I strongly recommend the eBook version.

After all, we live in a digitalized world, don’t we? You can order either one of them at this link. With this, I will sum things up here and would like to thank you for reading my article. If you had prior experience with inventory management systems or you have the opportunity to get your hands on this book, make sure to post your impressions and thoughts here on the blog at the end of this article. Rating the article is a simple task that will help future readers, so please do that whether you liked it or not. Live With Passion!
