    HP: Getting Its Engines Started

Most of us know Hewlett Packard as a simple computer making corporation that not to long ago, bought out the floundering Compaq Computer Corp. Recently, HP also jumped to the 5th spot from the 9th in the annual list of top 10 private sector organizations receiving the most U.S. patents, meaning that they are just getting started in their race to become omnipresent in the digital world. With the recent partnership with Apple and investments in Singapore, it looks like if HP is making its run at number one. But what does that mean to you and me?

Most of us know Hewlett Packard as a simple computer making corporation that, not to long ago, bought out the floundering Compaq Computer Corp. Occasionally you might see one of their printers, or maybe a digital camera here and there. But for the most part, HP is known for their proprietary desktops. Oh, wait - let’s not forget about their laptops, and now their tablet PCs as well. And of course, their iPaq line of PDAs (personal digital assistant). Yep - that about covers it. Well, that their monitors, both CRT (cathode ray tube) and LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors, their digital projectors, fax machines, scanners, and their multitude of server products. Cripes! Come to think of it, it would’ve probably been easier to list the things that they don’t have a hand in.

Recently HP also jumped to the 5th spot from the 9th in the annual list of top 10 private sector organizations receiving the most U.S. patents, meaning that they are just getting started in their race to become omnipresent in the digital world.
