Green Umbrella Product Review - Signing up
(Page 4 of 4 )
Registering for the service and setting up your devices can be surprisingly simple. Just be ready with the manufacturer's information and a serial number on hand so that they can be sure that you are actually registering a device that you own and not just making things up in case of a natural disaster.
Making a claim was a little bit more difficult to navigate. You have to be sure that you have some time to get your device shipped out for repairs, as repairs are favored over replacement in almost every case.
So unless you are able to prove to them that your pet schnauzer ate your iPod, it is pretty much going to be a repair first, then replacement process.
Overall, this service is a great idea if you have a lot of electronic devices hanging around your house that you do not have a reason to believe will be damaged in the two years after the manufacturer's warrantee.
If you have a big home entertainment system or a lot of computers, remember that the cost is the same whether you have one device or 20 on the plan, and you have more protection in case of a big issue if you list everything that is eligible for the plan.
Of course, if you own an iPod specifically, you do not really need this two-year warranty plan, and that goes for any Apple product. Apple products come with a built-in warranty that is called Apple Care, which lasts for two years and gives you access to the genius bar, which in turn gives you on site repairs at Mac stores.
