Father`s Day Gift Guide - GPS

My father has been hinting for one of these for years. There are many different versions of GPS systems. There are handheld units for hiking and camping, units for the car that give driving directions, and ones that can plug into your computer.  You choice should depend on what your dad will use it for most.

My father wants one of the ones that are used for hiking and camping. He never camps and we go on hikes only on vacation on public trails.  I doubt that it would be the best for him.  Now on the other hand he drives around all the time and sometimes gets lost on the way to where he is going, so a car-based system like Tom Tom would be perfect for him.

    Satellite Radio

One the greatest presents we've ever given my dad was his XM radio. There are currently two major competitors for satellite radio, XM and Sirius.  The two companies are currently trying to merge with each other, but for now, each has its own channel lineup with different sports, so take a look at which your father would prefer before deciding.

My father drives 20-30 minutes to and from work, and also uses the car for a few business trips and vacations. He got tired of no good (I mean old) music being on along with a bunch of ads. We got him XM radio for roughly $10 a month and he loves it and uses it every day.

When I drive his car, I always pop it on first thing to a station I enjoy. There are over 200 channels, so finding songs isn't hard at all. Sports are also big on satellite radio. Now you can get all the games of your favorite team anywhere in the U.S.

The XM radio units now come in all kinds of forms. There are Car units, units that can be taken in the car or the house and portable units with which you can walk around. This is a great idea for fathers that travel a lot and don't enjoy hearing radio ads.

One last idea: why not build your father something -- like a new computer? He will love the fact you got him a new computer and also love that you personally made the computer for him. You can spend a few hundred dollars up to a few thousand dollars. If you have any questions about this idea, feel free to stop by our forums where our friendly members are willing to help you.  Many of us have built multiple computers and can guide you through the whole process.

    Conclusion

I hope this article helped your brain start rolling in the right direction for a great Father's Day gift. If you have any questions feel free to stop by the forums.  I'm sure your father will love anything you get him.

I've been informed today by my mother that my father is getting a dish washer since she got a TV for Mother's Day.  As you can see it's not on my list, so I don't recommend you getting your dad a dish washer.  Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there and thank you for reading!
