Everyone’s iProfiting - Show us the iMoney
(Page 3 of 4 )
That is becoming very "iSickening" "iLately." It seems like big Companies are using their rock-solid reputations and names to tie the marketing of their otherwise-plain accessory solutions in with Apple's new monster-of-a product. Just think about this: "...Apple Computer says profit in its first quarter more than quadrupled on strong holiday sales of its iPod music player; net profit was $295 million compared with $63 million year earlier; revenue was $3.49 billion, up 74 percent from $2 billion year ago....".
So if you look at the accessories made by other manufacturers to match this product, we have a definite trend-setter here. Step aside LA gear, yo-yos and tongue rings. It's time to be cool wearing a white MP3 player on your belt. And don't forget a pair of cheap headphones that come with it that will break regardless of how you handle them - as long as they are white too. Just be careful walking around bad parts of town, because as much as we like to look cool, a lot of people like to look cool without paying the price for it.
White and silver... Maybe it's time to have an iCar or a small iMoped - and the Teutul boys from OCC can create an iChopper just for the occasion with an apple logo on the gas tank.
Creation of such a popular product has other effects on the multimedia market than just a world of new iAccessories. Big corporations aren't the only ones capitalizing on it's success. A few years ago if anyone said that what they do for living is load the music from people's CDs onto their music players, I would strongly suggest them getting their head checked and get a real job. Today it may very well be their real full-time job.
Yes, and some of us may have seen this -- people pay up to a dollar per CD for the music to be loaded onto their iPOD. Worst of all, the more friends I talk to about this, the more I hear: "...Wow...!"; "...That's a great idea...". Besides the fact that we are getting extremely lazy -- or perhaps because we are getting extremely lazy -- there is a new profession available for those who have the time and the desire: an iPOD loader.
There is another job that was created to fit the new lifestyle of the iPod nation. It is a bit more recent and time-consuming. Let's say you hate listening to the same songs over and over on the radio and the talk shows that are on aren't your cup of tea. Maybe you'd like something more specific that you would love to listen to. The talk show could be about fishing, sewing or tap dancing but it is only transmitted on AM radio stations on Thursday nights somewhere in Manhattan, KS.
Don't worry; thanks to the amount of people owning the little player, you can now listen to something you wouldn't catch on a big urban FM radio station. Now there are PODcasters -- people who just record their own "radio" talk show at home and upload it to the Web, for everyone else to download. Of course it will have commercials -- but what a great idea. All you have to do is download it and listen to the advertisements once in a while. It will be a huge market for the advertisers -- now they have a chance to infiltrate your personal music player!
