    E3 2008 Roundup - Sony Press Conference

Sony pulled up the rear as the last of the major next-generation console makers to hold a conference, and their elaborate setup definitely showed that they have something to prove. They started by previewing the highly anticipated Resistance 2, a science fiction first person shooter, for PS3 and announcing that a number of PS2's most popular games, including Resistance: Fall of Man, Call of Duty 3, Ninja Gaiden, and Fight Night, will be released to the PS3 for only $29.99.

    RESISTANCE 2

Little Big Planet is a new game for the PS3 that combines gaming with social media and user generated content. It is a puzzle platform (jumping to and from platforms) game that allows users to create their own worlds and share them over the PlayStation Network. Speaking of which, users will soon be able to utilize a single ID on any PlayStation device via a universal sign-on system. New demos of Sony Home were also released. This is an attempt by Sony to develop a 3D community space where PS3 players can build their own avatars and virtual apartments to represent them in the PlayStation Network. After several delays, Home is scheduled to be released for download in the fall of 2008.

Many in the audience were anxious to see whether Sony would react to Microsoft's Xbox 360 price cut. Their response: a new 80 GB PS3 that will be priced at $400, which is still $100 more than the 40 GB Xbox, but has twice as much storage capacity. The rest of the conference pretty much outlined some more anticipated games that are still in the early stages of development. One such game is God of War III, another installment to one of the biggest PlayStation franchises. It is a close combat action game based on Greek mythology.

Then there is Massive Action Game, an online shooter that allows up to 256 players at a time, divided into 8 player squads. The E3 trailer featured large landscapes, parachuting, air strikes, and tanks to highlight the military milieu. DC: Universe Online is a massively multiplayer online game that features the DC Comics characters. Check here for a list of the characters that have been confirmed thus far.
