CeBIT 2008 Round Up
The beginning of the year is an exciting time for tech gurus. There is CES and MacWorld, and also CEBIT. I've talked about CES and MacWorld already, so now it's CeBIT's time to shine in the light. Keep reading to get a sense of what all the excitement was about.

Any tech show is exciting with all the new gizmos and gadgets being shown off. Not many people here in the United States know much about CeBIT. It takes place in Europe every year, and is a big event, right beside CES. Because of the difference in time zones, we are usually asleep when people are at this tech show, so we often miss most of the good stuff. Well you're in luck, as I have a roundup of some of the cool new gadgets that made their way to CeBIT this year.
UMPC
The hottest gadget trend since the later part of last year is the Ultra Mobile PC device. It is a hybrid device between a laptop and a PDA. A UMPC usually runs a full OS as opposed to a PDA-like OS, but is a little bigger than a PDA. The demand and market for these devices is growing faster than anyone expected it to, and many companies are throwing their hats into the ring now. CeBIT proved a great place to launch a UMPC and we have a few of the great devices on display.

This first device is probably the one I'm looking forward to the most; it's the ASUS R70a. ASUS have been making great motherboards for generations and they have a few other divisions as well. I reviewed one of their wireless routers and loved it; they also make notebook computers as well as other things. This isn't their first UMPC. It was released at CeBIT 2008, and will be on sale this summer hopefully.
What interests me the most is the hardware that is inside of it. Instead of throwing in a mobile Celeron as many companies do, ASUS gave it the new Intel Atom CPU. Along with that it has 1 GB ram, a 120 GB hard drive, a 7 inch touch screen, and will run Microsoft Windows Vista. The R70a will have 2 host USB 2.0 ports, 802.11b/g, 3G, and GPS, all for connectivity. I can't think of any other means of connectivity, aside from Bluetooth. To top it off, it has a fingerprint reader and digital camera as well. I can hardly think of a better UMPC system than this. No word on price yet, but don't expect it to be cheap.
