    CES 2009 - Movit Mini

GiiNii is probably a company you have never heard of before, and that's okay, because neither have I. They did have a device that drew my interest, however. It was a Wi-Fi-enabled tablet device that ran on Android. It's very similar to the iPod touch. It has a 4.3 inch 480 x 272 resolution screen which handles touch input. It has built-in mic and webcam for out-of-the-box Skype support. There's Bluetooth and a built-in speaker as well.

It does fall short of the iPod Touch in memory, with only 256 MB, but an expansion slot is included. The price will be "less than the iPod Touch." There will also be a 7-inch version. The device should be out midway through the year.

    USB 3.0

The next revision of USB has been in the works for a while. I've written about USB 3.0 before when it was not much more than a few white papers from Intel. Now we have a few working models, and we are beginning to see adoption among manufacturers. It will have speeds up to 500 MB/sec, taking seconds to transfer HD movies rather than the minutes it takes now. We will see USB 3.0 at CES 2010 as well, but still only demos; hopefully we will also see a public release and full-fledged adoption in 2010 as well.

    Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed the CES 2009 round up. There were tons of really great gadgets this year, and I hope to see many of them publicly available soon!
