    Being Your Own Geek Squad

If you have been shopping for a new computer, or any electronics device for that matter, I’m sure you’ve come across someone trying to sell you Geek Squad or Firedog services. Other than taking your money, what else do these departments do? In this article, you will learn how to do the things you would normally have to pay the Geek Squad to do.

They usually will set something up for you, or install something on your computer. When you walk into a Best Buy or Circuit City to look at computers, they will most likely try to push this upon you and try to sell you these services. It's great that they are offering these services to you, but do you really need them? I would say that they are nice to have, but not for the prices they charge you. That is how the idea for this article started.

    History

I feel a little history is in order to help understand what they are and what they do. The Geek Squad was founded in 1994 to help consumers and businesses with their computer installations and management. Recently, in 2007, they added support for home theater installation and car audio. They started out with good intentions, but there have been multiple incidents of trouble within the Geek Squad. I will go into this more in the personal data section.
