Apple iTV: Amazing News or All Hype? - What You Can Get...and Look Forward To

Actually, it's no wonder that there are only 75 movies available right now; Disney is the only movie company that has signed up. But that will probably change. In the meantime, you can enjoy such films as "Shakespeare in Love," "Toy Story," "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," and "The Incredibles" on your video iPod. You can purchase new movies from the iTunes store the same day they come out in DVD for about $15 or other feature-length films for $10.

You can also get games from iTunes for your fifth-generation video iPod. We're not talking Quake or Doom, of course. You can get Tetris, Mahjong, and Mini Golf from Electronic Arts; Pac-Man from Namco Networks; Bejeweled and Zuma from PopCap (if they get Alchemy and BookWorm I might weaken); and a number of others, including some developed by Apple. They're about $5 a pop.

Okay, so now you can get music, video, TV shows, movies, and games all on your video iPod. How do you top that? Well, you know how Apple is always pulling surprises out of its hat. In this case, there was "just one more thing:"

What is it? Among other things, it's Apple's answer to Microsoft's home theater PC. It's the size of a Mac mini, and it will let you watch movies purchased through iTunes on your TV using a Wi-Fi connection. According to reports I've heard, it won't be available until the first quarter of next year, and it will retail for around $300.
