Apple has been in the news a lot lately. Their iPod and iTunes departments have stirred up quite a few rumors. Things could get interesting here soon for Apple. This article will speculate on what's ahead and what Apple may have planned for the future.
Since the launch of the iPod, Apple has shifted a lot of resources from Mac computers to iPods and music. The Mac computer isn't slowing down either, though -- quite the opposite actually. The iPod has spurred sales of Mac computers and really thrown OS X back into the mix. I'm typing this article on a Mac; quite a few things had to change to bring this Mac into my life.
Do any of the rumors circulating about Apple hav any merit? Today we'll take a look.
iPhone
First up is the iPhone. It’s been known for a while that there is a 3G iPhone in the works. Many people are holding off on purchasing a cell phone so they can buy this one. 3G will bring much faster speeds to the iPhone, which is needed.
The reason it isn't out yet is that the 3G chips that are needed are too big and too power hungry. Apparently they are working on developing a chip that will fit into the iPhone hardware and not kill battery life. [One has to wonder if this is the real reason behind Apple's recent purchase of chip designer P. A. Semi. -- Ed.]
This is probably the most certain thing that will happen this year. Steve Jobs has talked about it and hopes to see it this year. It doesn't appear as if we will see any additional memory boosts as we recently saw, but you never know. It's not like it can't physically happen, but it's more driven by price. They could cram over 70 GB of memory into the iPhone, but I doubt people are going to want to buy an iPhone over a car, since they would cost about the same.
