AMD and Their Struggles - Conclusion

AMD has had some ups and downs in their past. They had been riding a big wave going into last year. Intel had been struggling, but finally got things together. AMD CPUs were no longer the killer CPU to have. AMD finally got quad cores out the door, but only a few, and they have a serious issue with them. I still wouldn’t consider them market ready.

I believe acquiring ATI was a move in the right direction. It seems to me like the biggest problems so far in the marriage of ATI and AMD have been integrating the technology to use the same materials and machines. I believe we could see some great products next time around. I was amazed with the AMD 690 series chipset and this looks like just the start.

If AMD can get back into the CPU market with a bang, the company has the potential to become bigger than Intel. Maybe not this decade, but with the huge market penetration of ATI, to say nothing of its additional resources, they could take a huge chunk of the graphics market over the next few years.

As far as CPUs, AMD could quickly get back into the game with a working quad core for a cheap price. Intel lacks such a core in its line-up, and this gap in its product line will remain until at least 2009. Times at AMD are down right now, with not much apparently going AMD’s way. However, I look for a rebound in 2009 and a great kick to the market in 2010.

Thanks for reading this article on AMD’s future. Things could go either way for them from this point out. This is my educated guess as to what will happen; feel free to share what you think. Log onto our forums and express your thoughts on the subject.
