ASUS WL-500G Premium Review - Conclusion

When researching wireless routers you will find your average priced routers, around $40-$60 and then some nearing $100. Logic says that the cheaper ones are worth it; considering they all connect to the same Internet and all offer 802.11G. There are some benefits to getting the more expensive versions as they tend to pack in all the extras, including hardware that can be flashed to different firmware. This after all is a computer hardware site designed to give you the maximum performance out of every piece of your computer, so why not your router too?

The ASUS WL-500G Premium is a solid router. What sets it apart from other routers are the USB ports for webcams, hard drives and printers. It does come with a hefty price tag, but I feel it is worth it. Buying a wireless router and then a wireless print server would cost you more. Setting up the router is fairly easy and is well documented. It has proven it can handle HD streaming with ease. It does get bogged down when sending massive files over the network. In reality, you need to upgrade to 802.11N for the high speed needed. 802.11G is a great technology, but "N" is just around the corner.

This is a good router for all types of people. If you are tech savvy and are in need of a customizable router, this is for you. This router can be flashed to different firmware. ASUS has made a solid router and lived up to the standard they created with their motherboards. I would highly recommend this for people who want to disconnect their printers and external hard drives and free up some wires. I wouldn't recommend this for people who just want a wireless connection.
