VIA EPIA M10000 Board Review - Windows Operating System
(Page 5 of 7 )
Some of the plusses in using this board as a Linux server are that it is low powered, small profile and, the biggest thing, it's very quiet. If you're in a dorm room or even a home and you're running a Web Server or an FTP Server, you can't go wrong using this VIA EPIA M10000 in your server box. There are not a lot of Benchmarking Tools for the Linux OS and that is why you won't be seeing any graphs for Linux. But I'm sure you won't be disappointed using this board in combination with a Linux distro.
Since not everyone is a Linux nut, I will show you some Windows related information. As with the previous Linux install, Windows XP installed on the M10000 easliy without any major issues. The hardware specs for the Windows install are the same as the Linux install.

After Windows XP was fully installed and updated with Service Pack 1 and all the critical updates were installed, I used the VIA Disc included with this board to install the Lan and Audio Drivers. I went to ViaArena and downloaded the latest 4in1 Drivers for VIA based boards. Once everything was ready to go, I installed my favorite DVD Software and Virus Protection software, a plus with any Windows box.
Now I'm set to do some testing. I am going to use SiSoft Sandra 2004, PCMark2004, and PowerDVD to check the DVD playback quality.
