Introduction
CHUN, a Taiwan based hardwaremanufacturer known primarily for its display devices, decided in 2002that the company needed a bit of a face lift, something a name change andbranching out into new markets would easily accomplish. Thecompany changed its name to Albatron Technologies and added a new line of motherboards. Sweet mother of overclocking, did that ever make an impact!
Still, you've probably never heard ofthem. If you have, it's probably not the first name that comes to mindwhen someone mentions motherboards. Don't feel too bad, at least notnow. In the future, it might well be.
Since the name change, Albatron hasbecome one of only three Taiwanese companies to have both Intel and AMD DirectAccounts, the other two being ASUS and MSI. The company is also an nVidia Certified Vendor, as well as being a VIA, SiS, and an ALI design partner. Albatron Technologies also claims to have produced the first DDR400 motherboard to market, and has won over 100 awardssince 2002. Their effort has been followed up in 2003 with theclaim of having produced the first FSB800 motherboard. In fact, five oftheir products have won Taiwan's most exclusive prize fromInnovalue: the Taiwan Symbol Of Excellence. Not bad for a company thatnever mass produced a motherboard before 2002.
On the grill today we have the Albatron KM18G Pro micro-ATXmotherboard, based on the nForce2 chipset. Being a micro-ATXmotherboard means that this baby is designed for small custom cases,LAN boxes, and Home Theater Personal Computers (HTPC). But, enough withthe blabbing; let's crack open the box and see what we have inside.Let's dig in and see if this little guy can perform up to the levels ofother Albatron-released motherboards.
