    Advanced Chipset Features Setup Menu

The Advanced Chipset Features Setup Menu. Here we are going to change some options that will single handedly affect your system performance more than anything else you can possibly do, short of overclocking your CPU or memory. What I'm referring to is the DRAM Timing, The DRAM Bank Interleave, and SDRAM Cycle Length. From the "Optimized Settings" Option in the SoftMenu III menu I showed ya earlier, we see our DRAM timing defaulted to "Normal" Now this is all fine and dandy, and still better than the 8/10ns option that's there without the optimized settings. But we can do much better. We have the option of 8/10ns, Normal, Medium, Fast and Turbo. Now bear in mind, you must have TOP Notch memory in order to handle these settings. But as a rule of thumb, I say try it, if it works, your good, if not, well then back your memory settings down so as not to be so aggressive, or purchase better memory. There are a few out there I can recommend, Mushkin, Kingmax and Tonicom are a few that I have personally dealt with and come highly recommended. Ok, lets see what the benchmarks are showing us. Lets go with Sisoft first.

    MAX Configuration

Memory settings changed from "Normal" to "Turbo"

Ok, now we're seeing the most signifigant improvement yet performance wise, since we started this damn project! Sisoft CPU and Multi-Media scores are of course no improvement at all. The Memory scores are a different story. ALU/RAM Bandwidth improved 41%!!, while Float FPU/RAM Bandwidth increased 19% as well! 29 additional 3DMark2001 marks and a noticeable improvement in norm and high quality Q3 scores. Well, if you didn't think tweaking your bios could make this much of I difference, I hope I'll be able to change your way of thinking. Lets put the heat on our memory with DRAM Bank Interleave 2-way and 4-way and see if it makes a difference shall we?
