Foxconn Winfast NF4SK8AA-8EKRS Motherboard Review - Motherboard Software, SuperUpdate, SuperLogo

Alright, we have the bulk of installation and configuration finished. With Windows installed and started, I popped in the setup CD and got to installing.

It takes care of a handful of drivers and painlessly sets up everything except the RAID drivers, which need to be configured from Windows setup. The installation includes Nvidia’s Firewall software, which of course is much more flexible and configurable than the Windows Firewall. Altogether it gave a great first impression, but the CD also came with a few motherboard management programs: SuperUpdate, SuperLogo, and SuperStep.

SuperUpdate is a great feature. It updates your BIOS from within Windows. Foxconn’s website makes it super easy to find and download a bin file to update the BIOS. Simply point SuperUpdate to the bin file, and it will update for you. You can also backup the BIOS and have the program check for a new version of your BIOS automatically. I like this much better than working with flash disks, and I’m glad to see Foxconn using it.

SuperLogo gives you another way to customize your computer. This program allows you to replace the default BIOS boot image with one that you choose. You may need to do a little editing to your image to make it a 256 color and 640x480 or 800x600 res bitmap. The image above shows the first step of replacing the image. You choose the positioning of the image, then direct SuperLogo to your bitmap file, tell it to flash the BIOS, and then restart the computer. When it restarts, you’ll see your custom BIOS logo!
