DFI Lanparty UT nForce 4 Ultra D - BIOS and Software

    BIOS

My board has Bios 414-3. This isn’t an official BIOS yet, but can be found on DFI’s Forum, DFI-Street.com.

The BIOS has all the basic stuff you would want like boot order, but all the good stuff is found under Genie BIOS Settings.

Here we can set voltage, clock speeds and multipliers. The CPU voltage only goes up to 1.55v, which isn’t really good for overclockers. From there you can select the special control, and it rise by a percent though not a set number. At the bottom of the page you can find the option for MemTest86. You can set it to run when you boot up. The version that is in this BIOS is Memtest86+ 1.55. The BIOS that shipped with this board didn’t have MemTest86 built in.

The options for RAM tweaking are incredible. It has its own page filled with options. Each RAM has a different preference to settings.

One of the downsides of this board is the flakiness of the DIMM’s. Some of the problems have already been sorted out by BIOS updates, but there are still some left. Some RAM needs to be in certain DIMM’s to function properly. When I first booted the motherboard up I had only one stick of memory in it. It wouldn’t boot in any DIMM but the first. Not a big problem, but something worth noting.

    Software

The board comes with a Driver CD that comes along with nTunes, Nvidia’s overclocking and system overview program. They should have left it off. It couldn’t pick up any near accurate readings. The temperatures where a little low, but the best, while the voltage readings were more of randomly picked values then actual values. At the worst was the VDIMM reporting in at 1.5v while it was running closer to 3.5v. It really didn’t change when the actual volts were changed.
