    Cooler Master ATC 220B-AX1

Cooler Master cases are a work of art. They have long been the Ferrari of cases, and the ATC 220B series has the 'look' to be one of the standouts. Cooler Master took the ATC 210B and added a back-lit etch to the front door, and BAM! instant AHHHH!! factor. Before we get too far into the goods, ATC stands for Active Thermal Convection. Cooler Master designs their ATC series cases with the mindset that the aluminum case itself is acting as a heatsink. With the thought being that an aluminum enclosure will dissipate internal heat quicker than a comparable steel case. While playing with the case, the one thing that eventually caught my eye was the fact that there was no front intake fan to maintain the front to back air flow that is so critical in keeping temps down.

    Intro

    Packaging and Specs
Cooler Master uses excellent packaging, which pretty much nullifies the gorilla shippers handling and subsequent damage that I have seen all too much.

Once the case is out of the packaging, you can really appreciate Cooler Master's design, and finish. Here's some shots around and inside the case.

That was a look at the craftsmanship on the outside. As you can see, all fasteners are thumbscrews, and it has a removable motherboard tray.

Cooler Master has put to rest any fears of a flimsy motherboard tray. With additional support brackets on the top and bottom of the tray makes for a very sturdy feeling, and light weight tray.

Here you can see the thickness of the aluminum used, adding to the stability of the tray.

One extra star for the cutout for the exhaust fan. No stamped ugliness here.

Here we look into the belly of the beast. You can see the power/reset buttons, led panel and USB headers connections coming in, with the speaker mounted on the floor of the case.

This is a shot of the power inverter for the cold cathode that illuminates the front door. The CC is located in the frame of the door.

Cooler Master decided to place the intake fan on top of the case. Cooler Master's workmanship shows here with the grill mounted flush, and recessed fasteners that are accessible from inside the case.
