Albatron K8X800 Pro II Review - Benchmarks - Multimedia

DivX

These two were neck and neck for creating a DivX version of Game 8 of the '72 hockey "Summit Series" between Canada and Russia. This is using XMPEG 5.03 and DivX 5.1.1. I fully did not expect this result, due to SSE2 code liking clock speed more than anything, but the Albatron/64 combo put up a good fight, losing by an insignificant average of 1.8 FPS over the entire encode.
Windows Media Encoder 9

This is another multimedia/content creation test. The P4 setup pulled out a larger margin of victory this time, turning an episode of Trailer Park Boys I saved to my hard drive from cable TV into a WMV formatted to fit on the screen of my iPAQ Pocket PC. The P4 did it in 5:13, while the A64 rig did it in 6:40. In most cases, it seems that the Athlon is not going to work out too well for media applications.
LAME MP3 Encoding
Last of the media oriented tests is an MP3 conversion of The Tragically Hip - Phantom Power album using the DBPoweramp frontend.

With 14 seconds differentiating the two, over the course of a minute and a half, that's a 15% change - enough to be noticeable.
WinRAR

The Albatron socket 754 takes the victory here, and by a lot. I do a fair amount of file compression to help organize all my work, so this is a big bonus. The winRAR test I used was timing how long it took to compress an 86 MB folder of pictures from SciFormal to a .rar. This is all due to the x87 FPU in the A64 working in its favor. The P4 does not have a good implementation of this, so if floating point code doesn't use SSE2, then it falls far behind.
