    Benchmarking Continued

    FutureMark Corporation

The IC7-G puts up some very impressive numbers for FutureMark's 3DMark2001 SE. As we all know 3DMark01 is very FSB hungry and the new 3.0C Processor feeds it well with an 800MHz system bus. Increasing to 233/933 gives a big improvement of over 1500 3DMarks.

    PCMark2002

CPU Scores for the IC7-G are ahead of every other mobo/cpu combination in the field with the BH7 only slightly behind running the 2.4B/533 at 3GHz. Memory scores are where the IC7-G really excels. With Dual Channel DDR we see incredible improvements in overall memory bandwidth.

    AquaMark v2.3

The BH7 with the 2.4B/533 CPU runs surprisingly well compared to the IC7-G with 3.0C/800, although the IC7-G does have an advantage with a higher bus speed. Increasing it to 3.5GHz shows even more improvement.

    Code Creatures

    3.0GHz 3.5GHz

Above we see nearly identical scores for the IC7-G at both 3GHz and 3.5GHz which is a clear indication our video card has reached it's limit and no amount of processing horsepower by the CPU will bring these scores up. Code Creatures remains a force to be reckoned with for just about any video card out there at the moment.

    Commanche 4

FPS for Commanche 4 are very close for both the BH7 and the IC7-G when clocked at 3GHz. Moving to 3.5GHz shows a sizeable increase in performance.

    IDE and SATA HD Performance
Here are some benchmark numbers comparing both a DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB SATA Drive and the WD SE ATA/100 80GB IDE Hard Drive.

    HD Tach v2.61 Standard Test

DiamondMAX Plus 9 160GB SATA Western Digital SE 80GB ATA/100

    Advanced Size Check

DiamondMAX Plus 9 160GB SATA Western Digital SE 80GB ATA/100

    SiSoft File System Benchmark

DiamondMAX Plus 9 160GB SATA Western Digital SE 80GB ATA/100

Clearly the SATA HD is outperforming the IDE HD by quite a margin. Pretty much as we suspected but we were also impressed with the way that the IC7-G performed with the HD tests using SATA. With native support for the Serial ATA interface from Intel, I can safely say it's time to consider an upgrade from your IDE drive. Even my relatively new WD SE's are starting to show their age at this point and SATA is maturing very quickly.
