It really does not matter what stage of life you are in. At some point in time, you will need to take notes of some sort. You could be a student or work in an office, and either way, you will need to be able to take down notes -- unless you have an absolutely perfect memory. While many tend to resort to pencil and pad for their note taking, owners of the iPad tablet have an advanced option with the Note Taker HD app. Note Taker HD is basically the ultimate weapon when it comes to taking notes.

Due to its plethora of features, it can actually make the tedious task of note taking into one that is more enjoyable. Instead of making you use the iPad's virtual keyboard to type notes slowly, the app allows you to use a handwriting motion with your finger or a stylus. This allows for a more natural and quicker method of jotting down important notes. This advantage in terms of speed over typical typing is tremendous. The iPad's virtual keyboard does not replicate a true keyboard in terms of its form factor. Thus, typing on it for extended periods of time can be tedious.

Some might be wondering about just how they will be able to fit their handwriting onto the iPad's display, particularly if they have large fingers or use wide motions.  While that could be a problem, Note Taker HD handles it with ease. At the bottom of the screen, the app gives you a large entry box. Within this box, you can write in large font without having to worry about squeezing everything into a tight space. The app will take that enlarged font and downsize it to a readable level on the page. Even better, it will place the font onto a virtual “line of paper” so that the notes are kept neat.

Depending on personal preference, notes can be taken with the iPad in either portrait or landscape mode. If you are a more visual person, you also have the option of drawing lines or diagrams. While this could be done with a pencil and pad, it could not be achieved using a word processing program like Microsoft Word.

The developers of the app, Software Garden, did a great job in creating an authentic on-screen look that makes the app appear to be an actual pad of paper. By giving you the ability to put your own handwriting on the app in place of typed font, your mind may also be able to interpret or remember the notes more efficiently. There are different font colors to choose from, and you can even highlight notes that are especially important.

As in real life, the likelihood of mistakes while taking notes is high. To correct this, the app offers an eraser that will let you remove errors by using a simple swiping motion. As with many document editors, there are also the options to redo and undo actions as many times as needed. These erasing techniques can help the notes remain neater and easier to read, rather than creating messy marks on paper, as one would with traditional note taking.

There are many more features that go beyond just taking notes.  If you have notes that you want to share with classmates or colleagues within the office, you can do so by emailing them. There is also the option of saving them as PDF files for sharing purposes. To do so with paper notes, you would have to create photocopies and distribute them in person, which is not as convenient.

The way in which Note Taker HD organizes notes is impressive as well. You can create note favorites, and also use tags for searching. This allows you to find what you are looking for when you need it, rather than having to flip through tons of actual pages of notes. For visual searching, notes can be viewed in a thumbnail mode. Using thumbnails, you can flip through multiple pages to find your desired information.

With the amount of features it has to offer, Note Taker HD is a must-have app for iPad owners that need to take notes on a regular basis. Its combination of design, ease of use and flexibility is hard to beat. Since it only costs $4.99, it is well worth the purchase when you consider the cost of pencils and paper pads that will have to be bought in the future.

The app takes things a step further, however, in the way that it allows you to manage your notes for easy access and less confusion.
