X-Micro EVA Portable Audio Player - Software - Digital Audio Manager and Testing
(Page 3 of 4 )

Another major aspect of a portable audio player is the included music management software. The EVA’s included digital audio manager software has a clean interface and easy navigation with system folders on the left and files on the right. Just like any audio players that are based around the flash drive idea, this player also supports the drag-and-drop feature. The options are very simple and should take only a few minutes for you to get accustomed to the program. The bottom left box displays the total memory, memory space, and the memory used options. You can also format the player, refresh the USB to PC connection, and delete the songs via the software. The upload and download options mainly allow you to transfer files and songs back and forth between the player and the PC.
X-Micro exaggerated a little bit about including the same options at the top. The pull down menu buttons (File, Tool, Option, and Help) have the same options as the ones displaying on the bottom. The green bar, which is located in the middle on the left side, turns into a golden color when new files are added to the player to indicate the total amount of on-board memory.
A minor problem we noticed throughout our testing was that we were not able to upload the files to the computer via the software. According to X-Micro, this restriction is implemented to stop music piracy, however, you can easily overcome this obstacle by not using the player with the software. Since this player can be used as a flash drive, you can easily drag-and-drop the files by accessing it directly via Windows Explorer, or any other file management system. The software was stable throughout our testing, and the clean interface makes it a good choice for the EVA MP3 player.

The performance was measured for both audio quality as well as transfer rates for the EVA portable audio player. The audio quality tests consist of various audio frequency levels to determine the overall performance. We also included music from numerous genres to measure the final performance score. We also tested FM tuner performance, volume controls, and battery life to determine the overall productivity of the product.
The files we used for transfer rates included a package of MySQL database back-ups, raw image files, compressed image files, audio files in both .wmv and .mp3 formats, and text documents to see what kind of results we could achieve with this player.
