Verizon LG VX10000 Voyager - Features

    Features

    User Interface

LG has designed the Voyager's interface very similar to the iPhone's. I've found that the Voyager isn't quite as smooth as the iPhone, but it's very close. The main menu shows a list of brightly-colored icons, which are very pleasing to the eye. Flipping through the menus is very snappy and smooth. Much like the iPhone, the Voyager supports a scrolling feature that works by dragging a finger up or down the screen. Very nice overall.

    Vcast: Music, Video, TV

This feature is one of the most exciting parts of this phone. It's also what makes this phone one of the best multimedia phones on the market right now. Vcast works on a 3G EV-DO network created by Verizon. And it allows you to get streaming video clips, music, live TV, games, and more. Through this network, you can download music or video clips to play on the phone.

One of the best features of Vcast is the ability to watch live TV through the Voyager phone. This feature works by pulling out the antenna from the bottom of the phone, and then just connecting to the mobile TV feature. Right now, Verizon offers about 8 channels of TV such as ESPN, MTV, and MSNBC. This feature does require a subscription fee of $15 per month, so it's really up to the user if Vcast is worth it or not.

    Web Browsing

The Voyager has a web browser supplied by Teleca. The web browser allows you to view any web page, but it doesn't support flash or Java applications. While viewing web pages, the user can zoom in or out, and scrolling is done by dragging a finger up or down the screen. The EV-DO network is a very fast network, but it doesn't seem to be very fast in the Voyager. PCMag has concluded that this problem is caused by the browser and not the actual EV-DO network.

    VZ Navigator GPS

The navigation feature that is built into the Voyager works great. This feature is only accessible by opening the device up and viewing the display in landscape position. The GPS feature works relatively fast at finding directions, addresses, and businesses. The VZ Navigator even provides spoken directions, which is always a nice feature. After searching for directions to a restaurant, for instance, you have the ability to get directions and call the restaurant for reservations with just the touch of a button. This is an extremely useful feature for travelers; it allows you to leave your portable GPS device at home.

    Other Key Features

    • Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headsets, including stereo headphones

    • Full PDA-like organization features such as calendar, calculator, and memos

    • 2 MP camera with video capabilities

    • full email capabilities (POP3/IMAP) and text messaging (AIM, MSN, Yahoo IM)
