Verizon LG VX10000 Voyager - Design

    Design

I'm impressed with the overall look of the LG Voyager, and I like the "clam shell" design and touch-screen interface. When you first look at the Voyager, immediate comparisons to the iPhone come to mind. The Voyager is a bit thicker than the iPhone, but it also isn't as wide as the iPhone. The overall dimensions of the Voyager are 4.6 x 2.1 x 0.7 inches, and it weighs in at 4.7 ounces.

The front of the Voyager sports a 2.8 inch touch-screen display with 400 x 240 pixel resolution. Like most other touch-screen displays nowadays, this one produces a very clear picture, and the touch-screen feature works great. One feature that the Voyager has that the iPhone doesn't is a nice tactile feel which confirms the buttons you press on the touch-screen with a tiny vibration.

Below the screen are three buttons, which are the send, end, and clear buttons. On the left side of the Voyager you will find the volume controls, the digital camera shutter button, and the spring loaded lock/unlock button. On the other side of the phone, you will find the microSD card slot which will accept up to 8 GB of memory for music or videos, and you'll also find the headphone jack for listening to music. The bottom of the Voyager offers the proprietary connection for transfers and charging. It also is where LG has placed the mobile TV antenna. The antenna pulls out from the bottom of the device when you're ready to use Verizon's Vcast services (music, video, TV). The antenna is a little flimsy, but since it's stored internally, there shouldn't be a problem with it breaking.

The back of the phone sports the 2 megapixel camera, which does work well for a camera phone. One thing that the camera lacks is flash, although you do have the ability to adjust things like focus, brightness, zoom, and other attributes.

One of the coolest things about this phone is that it flips open like a clam and reveals another identical 2.8 inch LCD display on the inside. This display is not a touch-screen, but it resembles the front display in every other way. Opening up the Voyager also reveals a full QWERTY keyboard with nice large buttons that are easy to use for texting, IM, or typing. This is one of the best all-around keyboards that I've seen in a device like this.

The Voyager automatically switches to speaker phone when it's opened, and the speakers sound decent. There is a speaker on both sides of the internal display.
