Toshiba Gigabeat T400 Multimedia Player - Design
(Page 2 of 4 )
The T400's body is made out of a tough magnesium alloy component, which should withstand the bumps and bruises that normal MP3 players encounter on a day-to-day basis. The body comes in black with a choice of trim colors including pink, orange, and blue. The body is very similar to the Gigabeat S-series, only smaller. The T400 measures 3.37 x 2.13 x 0.4 inches, and weighs just over 2 ounces. Needless to say, this player is very mobile and should easily fit into a pocket or purse without any size or weight issues.
The 2.4 inch LCD screen is one of the largest displays in its class of flash-based players of this size. The screen is QVGA quality, and features a resolution of 320 x 240 and 262,144 different colors. When compared to the iPod Nano, the display of the T400 blows it away in both size and clarity. Although the screen size is tops in its class, it is probably still too small to be able to watch video clips that are longer than a few minutes without getting some eye strain.

The main controller on the T400 is the same one used by other Gigabeats. This four-way PlusPad controller is used to perform all of the functions of the player, making it simple and easy to use. This control pad will adjust volume, as well as navigate through the Windows Media Center-like menu system. I give Toshiba credit for making it easy to use this device.
On the bottom of the player, you will find the mini USB port, power button, and 3.5 mm headphone jack. The power button also doubles as a hold button, which should eliminate any issues with accidentally hitting a button while the player is in your pocket.
As I have already mentioned, the internal menu system is basically a smaller version of Windows Media Center. This will be a huge bonus for those people who are already familiar with this software. It is easy to use, and it works very efficiently. I use the software myself, so I really like the way that Toshiba has integrated it into this device.
With the purchase of a Toshiba Gigabeat T400, you will get the following accessories:
Other optional accessories include a sport armband, protective cases, FM transmitter, and an AC/DC charger.
