TomTom One XL Portable GPS Review - Performance
(Page 4 of 4 )
For the most part, the TomTom One XL performs all of its functions in a very
speedy fashion. When starting up the device, it will only take less than a minute to get a satellite fix on your location. The XL performs exceptionally well when choosing route directions, which takes only seconds for the processor to figure out and display on the LCD. When altering an already determined route, the XL is just as fast, taking only seconds to figure out the new route.
Performance of the battery, in this device, was not quite as good. The rated battery life is only two hours. I don't know that this is really a deal-breaker, because most people will use the included adapter to plug the unit into the car for power. In most cases, the user will not run the XL without plugging it in.
Final Thoughts
I have to say that I am quite impressed with the TomTom One XL. This portable GPS system offers most of the features which people look for in a GPS. The colorful and user-friendly interface will be a big hit in the highly competitive portable GPS market. The large touch-screen display works very efficiently and is easy to use, even for beginners.
I am probably most impressed by the performance of this device. This unit really
performs its functions in a speedy fashion, which is essential for a GPS system. The performance of the XL is better than most of its competitors in the $325 price range. I would say that the XL is worth every penny.

I would recommend the XL to first-time consumers looking to enter the portable GPS world because of the way this model keeps all of its functions simple. This may also be a great choice for someone looking to upgrade from a system which is outdated. Competition is strong in the XL's price range with the Garmin Nuvi 350 and the Mio C520, but for people who were big fans of the TomTom One, you can't go wrong with the XL.
