If you're looking for a basic cell phone that does a few simple tasks and won't break the bank, keep reading. Two options that might suit your needs are the Samsung SPH-M240 and the Samsung SPH-M330 cellular phones, which we're reviewing today.
With the influx of do-it-all smartphones that can seemingly do everything for you but cook you dinner, it’s hard to decide on what device to choose when shopping for a new cell phone. Considering the economy and the stranglehold on many people’s wallets, price can be a huge factor.
Also, there are many people out there who simply do not need a cell phone that is loaded with several applications. Some just want a basic phone for communicating either by voice or text.
For Sprint users, or those looking to latch onto a carrier, there are two phones that fit the bill: the Samsung SPH-M240 and the Samsung SPH-M330. Both are very basic in design and features, with the latter having a few extras. They won’t wow you in any particular way, but their price and performance is good enough for a starter phone or something to use occasionally. Without further ado, let’s take a look at both of these offerings from Samsung for Sprint users.
Samsung SPH-M240 for Sprint

The Samsung SPH-M240 for Sprint is about as simple as cell phones come nowadays. It’s a flip phone that is easy to use and is missing many of the bells and whistles that many cell phone users have become accustomed to seeing on newly-released phones. Its performance is not the greatest either, but as a simple phone for occasional use, it gets the job done. The SPH-M240 is quite affordable too, at only $19.99 in conjunction with a service contract from Sprint.
As stated, the feature set on the Samsung SPH-M240 is quite basic. The standard features are all there, including a speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, voice dialing, vibrate mode, both a regular and a tip calculator, and even a world clock if you decide to do some globetrotting. To help keep you organized, there is also a voice recorder, a calendar, and a note pad.
You can store up to 500 contacts in the SPH-M240, and for each contact store several phone numbers, as well as other data such as an email address, screen name, street address, notes, and more. You can sort your contacts into different groups for ease of access, and you can also assign a photo and a ringtone to each person. There are 20 polyphonic ringtones that come loaded onto the SPH-M240, but you can also download more using the basic WAP 2.0 browser that comes on the phone. You can customize the SPH-M240 even further by downloading additional screen savers and wallpapers as well.
Beyond these basic features, there really isn’t much more to the Samsung SPH-M240. Surprisingly, Bluetooth is absent, which is odd considering the safety that comes with hands-free capability. A camera is also lacking, which seems to come with almost all phones being released lately. There is no media player either, but you do get a taste of entertainment in the form of three game demos: Downtown Texas Hold ‘Em, Brain Exercise, and Super Street Fighter.
