The RIM BlackBerry Bold: a First Look - More Features

Many mobile devices feature GPS these days, and the RIM BlackBerry Bold is no exception. Its GPS features the ability to use cellular triangulation and satellites in order to locate your spot. You can use applications, such as Google Maps for Mobile or BlackBerry Maps, to obtain turn-by-turn driving directions or maps. However, in order to get real-time voice-activated instructions or real-time tracking, you must subscribe to a location-based service, such as AT&T Navigator. The RIM BlackBerry Bold works with AT&T Navigator Global Edition, which costs $9.99 per month for unlimited access. If you want one-day service, this service will cost $2.99. AT&T offers this service for free for 30 days as a trial service.

The RIM BlackBerry Bold also has caller ID features. You can program this smart phone so that if a business contact calls you, you can see the caller's name and phone number. If you want, you can program the mobile device so that the caller's photo appears as well. This smart phone also comes with 32 polyphonic ring tones. You can use the Bluetooth 2.0 technology for stereo or mono headsets and hands-free kits. The RIM BlackBerry Bold also is compatible with dial-up networking and serial port profile.

The RIM BlackBerry Bold is designed for the business professional. Business professionals that are on the run will be able to play and work with it. This smart phone is rather expensive; it retails for approximately $299.99. This is the price after discounts and rebates. However, you will have to sign a two-year contract.

As previously stated, the RIM BlackBerry Bold supportsHSDPA, which means that data transfers are quick and easy. With HSDPA, you should receive speeds of approximately 400 Kbps to 700 Kbps. The maximum speed that data can transfer is up to 2 Mbps.

The RIM BlackBerry Bold is compatible with 850/1900/21000 HSDPA/UMTS bands. This is useful if, for instance, you are traveling in Europe or Asia, and you need that high-speed 3G coverage. The smart phone also supports the following cellular enhancement protocols: GSM, UMTS, EDGE, and GPRS.

You don't have to solely rely on 3G because the RIM BlackBerry Bold supports 802.11 a/b/g. You can either add a network to your smart phone or have it automatically identify and connect to available networks. You can also use Wi-Fi tools, including site survey, DNS lookup, or diagnostics.

The RIM BlackBerry Bold includes a complete HTML web browser, where you have two ways of viewing, Column View or Page View. The browser also includes an on-screen cursorthat you can use to move in different directions or go directly to the part of the page where you can click a link.

Overall, the BlackBerry Bold is another great device from RIM that should be a very enticing choice for the business traveler.
