At the time, most people were not really sure why; they were just repeating what everyone else was saying. After all, was it not good enough that the cool little phone looked awesome, and responded when you rotated it?
Over time, we have come to realize that the iPhone truly is an incredible piece of technology. It provides all of the latest and greatest features that we look for in any mobile device and puts them all into a layout that easy to use and easy on the eyes. In the beginning, the vast majority of these applications were little games that could amuse iPhone users for a couple of hours and then be deleted. Nobody really took them all that seriously. These applications would allow you to jot down notes, produce to-do lists, and just generally keep track of your life.
Over time, the applications became more and more complicated and began offering more features with greater variety. With thousands upon thousands of developers working on applications, the limitations were the creativity of a massive user work force with (seemingly) plenty of spare time.
Now, there are over 10,000 iPhone applications on the market. There is something for just about anything that you could imagine. The real trick is becoming figuring out which iPhone applications are high quality programs that can help you, and which ones are worthless toys that are not even worth downloading.
