    The Creative Zen V - Battery/ Conclusion

    Battery

The Zen V is rated for 15 hours of battery life. I unfortunately didn't reach this mark under my testing. My Zen V broke the 14 hour mark constantly, but never reached the 15 hour mark. One thing it shares with Apple's iPods is that the battery cannot be replaced by the user. Since the Zen V costs so little, users will most likely throw it way rather than pay for a new battery and service. I did a little Googling and didn't find anyone having problems with their battery life.

    Conclusion

The Creative Zen V is a cheap 1 GB MP3 player. It has all the features you would expect. The screen is a great feature for such a cheap device. You can find this player online for $50; comparable players such as the Apple iPod Shuffle will run you double that with no screen. The music sounds good, and it will play your music for hours on end.

The Zen V doesn't come without its problems. With the cheap price comes cheap design and parts. It felt cheap and the economical joystick made navigating a little harder than it is for other MP3 players. Creative should have spent the extra few cents and given the player a longer USB cord. The user interface leaves something to be desired. It looks like it was designed in 1995 and doesn't do the screen justice. The overall performance of the device is a little underpowered.

All in all, it's not a great player and not a horrible player. If you're looking for an MP3 player and are on a tight budget, look at this player. The issues keep the Zen V from receiving the Dev Hardware Recommended award, but I think it deserves an honorable mention.
