    T-Mobile G2x and the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G Smartphone Review

In this week's cellphone review, we take a look at the T-Mobile G2x and the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G smartphones.

The T-Mobile G2x is an Android smartphone that offers a solid combination of design and features.  The G2x is available for $199.99 after rebates and a two-year contract with T-Mobile.

The T-Mobile G2x comes running on Google's Android 2.2 operating system.  The Android distinction means you get a smartphone packed with plenty of Google goodies.  Among them are integrated Gmail, Google's Calendar, Google, Talk, Google Maps, Google Search, and YouTube.  Not to be left out is the fact that you also get access to the massive Android Market where you can look for apps to add to your smartphone in a wide variety of categories.

The basic phone features of the G2x include a speakerphone, conference calling, an alarm clock, a calculator, and a calendar, among others.  The phone book has plenty of room for all of your contacts' data, and you can also import contact data from various social networks thanks to the Froyo feature.

More advanced features of the G2x from T-Mobile include Bluetooth support so you can connect your phone wirelessly to stereo headsets, hands-free kits, and more.  If you need directions while driving, there's integrated GPS.  The G2x is a quad-band world phone, so you can use it overseas whether on business trips or on vacation.   Connectivity options include T-Mobile's 4G network, as well as Wi-Fi.  Once connected, you can browse the web with ease using the built-in web browser.  The G2x can also be converted to a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 5 devices.  Rounding out the advanced features of the smartphone are USB tethering and voice dialing.

Messaging features on the G2x are numerous.  Of course, you get basic text and multimedia messaging.  You also get instant messaging through various popular IM clients.  If you are into video chat, that is another messaging possibility.  Email comes with plenty of options too.  The smartphone supports standard POP3 and IMAP accounts, and it can also be synced with Microsoft Outlook to include the program's email, contacts, and calendar.  A smartphone would be incomplete without social networking these days, so T-Mobile includes access to always-on social networking as well.

If you enjoy multimedia features on a smartphone, T-Mobile has you covered here.  There's a  built-in media player to handle all of your music and video needs.  Speaking of video, you can view it on the G2x in a multitude of forms.  The phone supports full HD 1080p video playback, and it offers 8GB of internal storage for your clips.  Additional storage up to 32GB can be had via a microSD card.  DLNA streaming is supported, and you can also project your phone's video onto a HDTV using the Micro-HDMI port.  Gaming fans will enjoy using the G2x as well, and its fast 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor can handle such tasks with ease.

Last, but not least, are the G2x's cameras.  It's 8-megapixel camera can record video in 1080p.  It's 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera is useful for video chat.

The design of the T-Mobile G2x is attractive, with its black and metallic color scheme offering a modern and professional look.  The phone measures 4.9 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide by 0.4 inch thick and feels solid in the hand.  The soft-touch finish on the back panel offers a nice grip.  The highlight of the G2x's design is obviously its 4-inch IPS touchscreen.  Graphics are superb and it is responsive to the touch.  The touch-screen keyboard is excellent for quick messaging as well.

If you are a T-Mobile customer in need of an Android smartphone that has it all, you cannot go wrong with the G2x.  Its full set of features and solid design make it a great choice for smartphone users.
