    Southwing SH505 Bluetooth Headset - Specs, Features, and Sales Box

    (Page 2 of 4 )

    All right, so the time has come for us to check the technical specifications of the Southwing SH505. One of the first attributes that literally stand out when placed in comparison with most of other competitors is the promised 10 hours of talk time, and 300 hours stand-by time. Average headsets allow up to 7 hours. The battery is rechargeable.

    Here's the list of specifications right from SouthWing’s website:

    • Up to 10 hrs talk-time;

    • 300 hours standby time;

    • Touch Sensitive Controls;

    • Fits both ears;

    • Weight: 12 grams;

    • Call features: Push4™ favorite number button, Voice dialing, 12 ring tones, Auto-sleep, Automatic call pick-up, Mute function, Quick disconnect (headset from handset), Call waiting, Battery level indicator, Low battery warning, Transfer call to phone;

    • PC application for download at http://www.southwing.com/downloads/;

    • USB data and charging cable;

    • Bluetooth version 1.2.

    Moving on, let’s introduce the product package. Please check out the photos below.

    As mentioned earlier, this Bluetooth hands-free headset is the first one to come with a PC application. This made it possible to download and update its software (firmware). For example, the device we are reviewing came with v2.6, but we updated the firmware to the latest version, which was v3.1. The process was smooth.

    The Southwing SH505 is compatible with every mobile phone that has Bluetooth support. And thanks to the PC application and the continuously improving software versions, this ends up as forward compatible with all new mobile phones as well. Surely, this relieves a lot of stress regarding the future-proof-ness of this hands-free headset.

    The package contains the following items: the SH505 headset per se, user guide, headset cord, USB data (and charging) cable, and the power supply in certain cases (particular OEM packages via resellers in Europe aren’t including this power supply [120V/60Hz], though, this doesn’t become a problem because charging is possible via the USB cable). You can see most of components in the picture above.

    The design of the headset gives it a stylish and modern look. The ear bud, though not made of rubber, still has some sort of padding and is quite comfortable over extended usage as well. The hook can also be used if need be. It has fascinating features due to its “touch-sensitive” controls—the volume can be controlled just by touching its surface. Moreover, it sports the Push4™ button that is programmable.

    On the next page we will take a look at the performance of the Southwing SH505.
