Sony NW-S705F Noise Canceling Walkman - Design and Cosmetics

Sony is a company that puts style right up there with performance when it comes to their MP3 players. The NW-S705F is no exception to this rule, as it is very stylish and durable. This Sony player is very portable and lightweight. The overall dimensions of this player are 3 x 1 x 0.25-0.5 inches, and the player itself is as light as a feather. With such a small player, you would expect small buttons and controls. That is the case with this player, but the small buttons do not seem to be a big problem.

This sleek-looking Walkman sports a shiny black finish and a nice silver lining. It feels very durable, and looks very stylish. With the player being so small, there is not much room for a readout screen. Sony has squeezed a three-line OLED display onto this Walkman which measures in at about 0.25 inches high and about 1 inch wide. The screen does display full-color album covers, but they are so tiny that they are hard to view. It is still kind of cool to see how Sony was able to get such a small picture into the tiny display. The display does not have an adjustable brightness feature, so it can be tough to view in some lighting conditions.

Most of the main functions of this player are controlled by a small, but very functional, four-way rocker. This rocker controls mainly the play, pause, and volume controls.  There is also a very nice shuttle wheel which helps the user skip between songs and also through different albums. This shuttle wheel is very fluid, and it navigates through the songs and albums very quickly and easily.  Although the controls on this player are very small, I like their functionality and usability.
