Sanyo SCP-3810 for Sprint and Nokia 3711 for T-Mobile

In need of a simple flip phone? Continue reading then, as we take a look at two such phones in this review: the Sanyo SCP-3180 for Sprint and the Nokia 3711 for T-Mobile.

    Sanyo SCP-3810 for Sprint

If you are shopping around for a basic cell phone that has some added perks and are not bound by a contract at the moment, you may want to look at the Sanyo SCP-3810 for Sprint. The SCP-3810 is a simple flip phone that is easy to use, provides good service, and has some added features such as GPS and Bluetooth to make it an attractive device for most casual users. Best of all, if you get a two-year service agreement from Sprint, the phone is free after rebates. Otherwise, it will cost you the full price of $249.99.

The basic features on the Sanyo SCP-3810 include a speakerphone, a timer, a stopwatch, a calculator, an alarm clock, a world clock, and a calendar. Text and multimedia messaging also comes on the phone, but you get threaded text messaging, which shows your conversation history in an easy-to-read format.

You can store up to 300 contacts in the phone and enter multiple phone numbers, email addresses, a street address, and more for each. To eliminate confusion, you can sort your contacts into different groups and allocate a photo and ringtone to each. There are 37 polyphonic ringtones that come standard on the phone, but you can always download more from Sprint using the phone's WAP 2.0 browser.

Sprint also has a backup service that will store your contacts on their server in the event that you lose or damage your phone. You can customize the SCP-3810 using different wallpapers, themes, or screen savers through the browser as well.

More advanced features include Bluetooth for use with hands-free kits, stereo headsets, and other compatible devices. The SCP-3810 also supports voice commands, voice dialing, PC syncing, and USB mass storage. For those can't-forget ideas that pop into your head occasionally, there is a voice recorder.

You get integrated GPS to receive local data and turn-by-turn voice directions with the Sprint Navigation service. A key GPS feature that parents or stalkers will love is the Sprint Family Locator service, which allows you to view exact locations of your loved ones no matter where they are.
