SanDisk Sansa View MP3 Player Review - Performance
(Page 4 of 4 )
Performance
Overall performance of the SanDisk Sansa View is good, although it has its bad points. Sound quality is great, but the low-end performance is below average. CNet says, "...music tends to be lacking in bass, and we get a lot of low-end distortion when we adjust to compensate via the five-band user EQ." They go on to say, though, "...music in general sounds pretty good, with nice high-end clarity and warm mids." PC Mag agrees with CNet's take on audio quality, and they also add, "Overall audio quality of the View is solid-provided you chuck the bundled earbuds." The included earbuds seem to be pretty cheap, which isn't surprising because most stock earbuds are.
Video performance seems to be pretty good, although not perfect. I viewed a variety of videos on the Sansa View, and most of them looked very clear and smooth on the LCD display. CNet said this about the video performance: "Videos...did suffer a bit from the dimness, and we noticed some slight pixelation at points, but they still looked passable." They felt that the clearcoat layer on this player caused a bit of a dimming effect on the LCD display. This problem is easily fixed by increasing the brightness levels.
The rated battery life of the SanDisk Sansa View is quite impressive; it's better than its competitors'. The manufacturer rates the battery life at 35 hours of audio and seven hours of video. CNet's tests showed slightly lower, but still excellent, results at 32.3 hours of audio and 5 hours of video.
CNet rating: 7.3/10
PC Mag rating: 3.5/5
My rating: I would rate the Sansa View as a 7.5/10, because it's a very snappy flash player that performs well on every level. It's a very simple to use, straight-forward music/video player. The only things I don't like about this player are its "lackluster" looks and GUI. I also don't like the "only average" sound quality (bad bass response). Other than that, this is a great player at an extremely great price.
