Samsung i617 BlackJack II - Performance (Page 4 of 4 )
Performance
Call Quality
Call quality of the BlackJack II seems to be quite good. CNet's review said, "We (CNet) enjoyed clear audio with minimal background noise and ample volume." Laptopmag agrees that this phone has solid call quality saying, "all quality was solid on our tests in Manhattan and New Jersey. We left two messages on a landline, one from inside an office and one from the street, and the audio was clear in both cases."
Speakerphone quality didn't fare quite as well in CNet's tests. They noticed some background hissing and said that the voices sounded "a bit garbled." They went on to say that callers on the other end noticed some echoing during the call. On the plus side, they did say that there was plenty of volume, and none of the speakerphone issues were too bad.
Processor/Internet Speeds
The BlackJack II is powered by a 260 MHz processor, which is an upgrade from the original BlackJack's 220 MHz processor. The processor does a good job of providing the BlackJack II with speedy performance, and all but eliminates system crashes. CNet tests showed "very little lag even when we had numerous applications open."
Laptopmag tested the loading speeds of various web pages using the BlackJack II. Here's what they had to say: "it took only 9 seconds to load NYTimes.com and 40 seconds to load the more graphics-heavy Gizmodo.com, although we could start reading the site within 15 seconds."
Battery Life
Battery life was a big issue with the original BlackJack, but Samsung has addressed that issue by using a higher-capacity 1700mAh battery in the new BlackJack. Tests have shown that you will probably have to charge this phone every other day with normal use. Samsung claims seven hours of talk-time and 14 days of standby.

CNet rating: 7.7/10
Laptop Mag rating: 4/5 stars, "first-time smart phone buyers and those looking to upgrade their older BlackBerry or Treo won't find a better device for work and play for the price."
My rating: 8/10
