Samsung i617 BlackJack II - Features

    Features

    Windows Mobile 6 OS

With Windows Mobile 6 as the operating system in the BlackJack II, you're getting the latest version of Windows Mobile. For PC users, the BlackJack's interface will be very familiar and easy to use. This OS works very well with the BlackJack II's newer, speedier processor with 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM onboard.

Windows Mobile 6 also adds the ability to not only view Microsoft Office documents, but also to edit them. This editing feature is limited, but it is still useful nonetheless. PDF files can also be viewed on this device.

Overall, the menu system is very easy to navigate, and the processor is pretty quick in terms of getting you through the menus at a good pace with minimal pauses. The amount of features and menus in this phone are extensive, so a good processor is a key component of the new BlackJack.

    Web Surfing

Surfing the Web with the new BlackJack II is a good experience. It uses a 3.6 Mbps HSDPA 3G connection for Web surfing, which is a very fast network for this kind of device. There is no Wi-Fi support on this phone, but you'll soon forget about that when using the ultra-fast Internet through the BlackJack's network.

    GPS Capabilities

The built-in GPS chipset in the BlackJack II is a welcome addition that was not available in the predecessor. Using the navigation feature does require a small monthly fee to use the TeleNav GPS navigator, but in most cases, it's well worth it. This feature is currently offered for $9.99 per month, and it includes turn-by-turn directions, traffic information, and local POI searches. The BlackJack II doesn't limit you to just TeleNav navigation. You can choose to use Google maps for mobile, Garmin Mobile XT (one time fee of $99), and other navigation services if you desire.

    Video Share

Video share is another new feature of the new BlackJack. This feature allows you to make video calls with other AT&T video share-equipped devices. There is an additional fee for this service ($4.99 per month for 25 minutes of use, $9.99 for 60 minutes), but it may be a useful feature for traveling business professionals who conduct video conferences or who want to stay in touch with family at home and be able to actually see them.

    Music and Video

This device can definitely replace your MP3 player. It has the ability to store over 4 GB of music or video via the microSD card. This phone features Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, and it supports MP3, AAC, WAV, WMA, MPEG-4, and WMV formats. Streaming video is supported on this phone, but its quality is just okay. This phone supports XM radio for streaming satellite music. The only downfall of the BlackJack II, in terms of multimedia functions, is that it doesn't support on-air music downloads as other smart phones do. Still, it's an excellent multimedia phone.
