Samsung Intensity SCH-U450 for Verizon Wireless - Design

The design of the Samsung Intensity SCH-U450 is quite nice. It's very compact; it  measures 4.25 inches tall by 2.08 inches wide by 0.65 inch thick and weighs 3.53 ounces. Despite its small size, the Intensity feels solidly built. It fits easily into pockets and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.

Its matte finish provides a nice, non-slippery grip, and its curved corners add to its overall aesthetic appeal. It comes in two different color schemes, the more standard charcoal gray scheme, or the more flamboyant flamingo red scheme. The charcoal gray is attractive and unassuming, but if you want to make more of a statement and turn some heads, then go for the flamingo red.

The front of the Intensity houses its 2.1-inch display with 176x220 resolution that provides vibrant, sharp graphics. Beneath the display are the navigational buttons, which could be a bit small for some. The keypad, however, is not so cramped, and is easy to type on.

If you turn the Intensity on its side, the display transitions from portrait to landscape mode. Sliding the phone upward reveals its full QWERTY keyboard. The slider feels very sturdy, so you won't have to worry about any durability issues. The keyboard is adequately sized to allow for quick and easy messaging, and it has a nice layout that includes two soft keys as well as a messaging key, Function, and Shift key.

Other elements of the Intensity's design include voice command and camera keys on the right, as well as the charging jack, volume rocker, and 2.5mm headset jack on the left. The back of the Intensity houses its speaker, camera lens, and self portrait mirror. Perhaps the only goof in the design of the Intensity is the location of its microSD card slot, which is only accessible after removing the battery cover.

The Samsung Intensity SCH-U450 for Verizon Wireless is a good phone for those not looking to spend a lot of money, but who still need a great messaging phone. It has plenty of messaging features as well as a great design to accommodate them. Throw in the GPS, Bluetooth, music player, and camera, and you have yourself a nice little cell phone at an affordable price.
