Samsung Galaxy Prevail and Samsung Gem SCH-i100 Reviews

In this smartphone review, we will take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Prevail and Samsung Gem SCH-i100 cell phones.

The Samsung Galaxy Prevail is an Android smartphone for Boost Mobile customers that brings an attractive design and a satisfactory feature set to the table.  It may not be the most advanced phone on the market, but it should suffice for Boost Mobile fans seeking to jump into an Android device.  The Galaxy Prevail is available for $179.99 from Boost Mobile.

As mentioned, the Galaxy Prevail comes equipped with Android 2.2 Froyo as its operating system.  This means you get a solid user interface plus many of Google's most popular services.  There's Gmail, Google Talk, Google Places, Google Maps, and YouTube.  You also get access to the vast array of apps via the Android Market.  As is, the smartphone comes pre-loaded with several apps for you to play around with.

The most standard features of the Prevail include a vibrate mode, speakerphone, conference calling, and organizational tools such as an alarm clock, calculator, calendar, and more.  There's plenty of room for all of your contacts, and you can input data for their phone numbers, email address, physical address, and more.  You can also pair photos and ringtones to contact for extra customization.  Callers can also be placed into groups for better organization.

Beyond the basics, you get Bluetooth capability so that you can pair your Prevail with other compatible devices wirelessly.  For navigational help, there's integrated GPS that can offer turn-by-turn directions and other data specific to your location.  Voice dialing is supported as well.

Messaging options on the Galaxy Prevail begin with standard text and multimedia messaging.  Real-time instant messaging is available, as is access to your favorite social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.  Email options include support for standard POP3 and IMAP accounts, as well as access to work email via Exchange.

The Prevail can entertain you thanks that its integrated music player with support for the MP3 format, playlists, album art, and more.  There's also a video player, plus the aforementioned YouTube access.  If you want to browse the web, you can do so with the built-in full HTML browser.   Last, but not least, is the 2-megapixel camera.  It takes photos of decent quality, and it can also be used to record video clips in various settings.

Samsung did a great job with the design of the Galaxy Prevail, as the phone has a modern, sleek look.  Its overall black color scheme is accented by some metallic touches that offer both a professional and a fashionable appearance.  In terms of size, the smartphone is portable and measures in at 4.4 inches tall by 2.3 inches wide by 0.5 inch thick.  It's also very light at just 3.8 ounces.  While the front of the phone is quite glossy, its back employs a soft touch texture that offers a solid grip.

The Prevail's 3.5-inch TFT touch-screen display has a 800 x 480 resolution that produces vibrant and colorful graphics.  The display is responsive to the touch and works well in interacting with the user interface.  For messaging, there's a virtual keyboard that is easy to use.  Rounding out the phone's design are four touch-sensitive buttons the reside just beneath the display.

When all is said and done, it's safe to say that the Samsung Galaxy Prevail is one of Boost Mobile's best offerings.  With solid features and aesthetic appeal, the Prevail should attract several Boost users looking to upgrade into the smartphone market.
